Hunt is on after Luton drug dealer flees from court

A Luton drug dealer sentenced to seven years in prison is wanted by police after absconding from court during the trial.

David Sereaton, 55, of Grange Avenue, was sentenced after a search warrant was carried out at a property in Frederick Street in September last year. During the warrant officers found a quantity of class A drugs, money, and weapons.

A jury found Sereaton guilty of possession with intent to supply both heroin and crack cocaine and the judge sentenced him to two seven year jail sentences, to be served concurrently.

However, Sereaton failed to return to court during the trial on Thursday (30 June), so was convicted and sentenced in his absence on Monday. He is now wanted and a police search is underway.

A second man, Anthony Baptiste, 51, of Friesian Close, was jailed at the same time for nine months for allowing a premises to be used for the supply of class A drugs.

Detective Constable Cathie Layton said: “Drugs have absolutely no place in our society and we are committed to reducing the supply of these dangerous substances in our communities.

“We cannot over-exaggerate the damage that drugs have on people’s lives; causing addiction, illness, financial ruin, and even death, and I’m pleased that Sereaton’s sentence reflects the severity of his actions.

“We’d like to reassure the public that we are committed to finding him as quickly as possible to ensure that he is taken off the streets and is made to face his punishment.”
