International Nurses’ Day parade

NEWLY qualified nurse Siobhan Fairhurst wore a vintage 1937 uniform to lead the parade celebrating International Nurses’ Day on Friday.

She also carried a special lantern torch in recognition of the Olympics and Florence Nightingale, known as the Lady of the Lamp.

Staff representing more than 19 nationalities took part in the event at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital, underlining the global aspect of the profession.

There was also a display about nursing and midwifery through the ages in the hospital’s main reception.

After the parade, those taking part were presented with achievement scrolls.
