Knitters’ bootee-ful gifts for baby unit

NIFTY knitters from Sainsbury’s, in Dunstable, have been giving premature babies a warm welcome to the world.

The staff heard more than 740 premature babies are helped by the neonatal unit at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital every year.

And the unit aims to give each of those babies an outfit to take home.

Now Sainsbury’s staff have knitted more than 100 items, including cardigans, hats, bootees and blankets for the unit, and are already working on their next batch.

Sarah Newby, the hospital’s fundraising manager, said: “Thank you to everyone at Sainsbury’s for knitting these gorgeous little garments for the babies. We are really grateful.”
