A first floor lounge was badly damaged by fire in a block of flats in Houghton Regis yesterday (November 5).
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire in a block of flats in Fensome Drive, Houghton Regis at 10.51am.
When firefighters from Dunstable Community Fire Station arrived just seven minutes later they found a fire in the lounge of a first floor maisonette well alight and called for further fire appliances from Dunstable and Toddington.
They used breathing apparatus to protect themselves from smoke and fumes and fought the fire using two fire hoses and a covering jet, extinguishing the fire by 11.15am.
The fire caused 30% damage to the lounge and left the room 100% smoke logged.
Firefighters cleared the smoke using positive pressure ventilation. There were no casualties and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
The incident was closed at 11.31am.
