Luton nominated in threecategories for national awards

The event is organised by Transport Times, celebrating successful projects that have improved the experience of transport users.

They have been nominated for Transport Local Authority of the Year, Construction and Engineering project of the Year and Transport Team / Partnership of the year.

Councillor Sian Timoney said: “Look around our borough, and the successful and ongoing delivery of a number of key projects is changing the landscape of Luton for the better before our very eyes.”

Councillor Dave Taylor said: “The busway was a technical triumph of engineering, and since completion has helped deliver a six per cent increase in bus passenger journeys across the Luton network and nine per cent in Dunstable and Houghton Regis. I am delighted that our strong commitment in Luton to creating a first-class urban environment while preserving our existing character is being recognised on a national level.”

Luton Borough Council’s entry for Transport Local Authority of the Year highlights the delivery of the £24 million Town Centre Transport Scheme, the completed inner ring road, the new northern entrance at Luton Airport Parkway, major works at M1 junction 10a, improvements to cycling networks, the forthcoming Luton Travel Centre and the completion of the Luton Dunstable Busway, and the station interchange.

The submission for Construction and Engineering Project of the Year and Arriva’s entry for Transport Team of the year focus on delivery of the Luton Dunstable Busway, and the partnership with Central Bedfordshire Council and bus operators.
