Mitalee Youth ‘an excellent benchmark’

MESSAGES of congratulations and support have been pouring in for Mitalee Youth Associaton which celebrated its 27th anniversary at Venue Central on Friday.

They included tributes from deputy prime minister Nick Clegg and Bangladesh High Commissioner Dr M Sayeedur Rahman Khan, as well as MP Kelvin Hopkins and council leader Hazel Simmons.

Mr Clegg, who visited the group earlier this year, said: “Your endeavours form an excellent benchmark for others to follow, providing a significant contribution towards the Big Society. “I wish you continued success with your groundbreaking work.”

Dr Khan said: “Mitalee’s aim in bringing positive change is highly commendable.”

Luton North MP Kelvin Hopkins congratulated the organisation on its “years of splendid work for generations of young people” while Cllr Simmons added: “The tireless efforts of volunteers is a credit to the town.”

Founder member Ashuk Ahmed said they’d come a long way from their origins as “the only midnight youth club in the country.”
