Motorists advised of overnight road closures

There will be three overnight road closures as part of the M1 Junction 10a improvements scheme during January.

The M1 Spur Road will be closed in both directions between J10 and J10a from 8pm till 6am on Wednesday, January 28, and Thursday, January 29.

No traffic will be able to join or leave the M1 at J10.

This is to allow for the installation of new overhead gantries.

A signed diversion will be in operation via J11, A505, A5065 and A505 again.

New Airport Way (A1081) will be closed in both directions from 8pm till 6am on Sunday, January 11, between Kidney Wood roundabout and Capability Green

This is to allow for central reservation works.

A signed diversion will be in operation via Gipsy Lane, Windmill Road and Chapel Viaduct (A505), Castle Street and London Road (A1081), or vice versa.

The work is part of the council’s £30 million project, it aims to tackle significant queues and congestion experienced at the junction by widening the M1 spur road and New Airport Way (A1081) to three lanes in each direction.

Drivers heading for the town centre or London Luton Airport are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
