The new Mayor of Dunstable is carrying on a family tradition by taking on the ceremonial role.
Councillor Liz Jones was installed at the Dunstable Town Council AGM on Monday night at All Saints Academy on Monday evening, with Peter Hollick her deputy.
She told the audience: “As many know already, the mayoral role is somewhat of a family tradition. Both my parents and grandfather have undertaken the role over the last 40 years – I have lots to live up to as I become the third generation of mayors within th e family.
“The standards set of all three are high and I hope I will do them all proud.”
Councillor Jones, who works for the Department for Work and Pensions as a manager at Luton Jobcentre, said that Dunstable was going through an exciting period of transformation.
She said: “The A5/M1 link road and the Woodside Connection infrastructures will enable us to critically review and change the way our High Street looks once completed in 2017.
“We have new employers coming into our town, both independent retailers and national chain stores, creating new opportunities for our people.
Luton and Dunstable Renal Care Unit, Kids In Action and Bedfordshire Girl Guiding Association have beennamed as the mayor’s charities.
