The day started with a game of 5-a-side football, moving onto the traditional sports day events such as the egg and spoon relay race, welly wanging, three-legged race, wheelbarrow race and ended with a game of rounders.

To promote healthy eating options, the food was prepared by Signposts Healthy Lifestyles Group with options of baked Mediterranean vegetables, salads, chicken and fruit salad. Tesco Luton also made a very generous donation of fresh fruit and bottled water for the event.

Andrew French, who has been supported by Signposts since April 2014, said: “It was a great day! The weather was just lovely and the Healthy Lifestyles Group put on a lovely spread. Even though I didn’t physically take part, it was very entertaining and I am looking forward to the next event. I am proud to be a part of Signposts.”

Chloe Baxter, a client support co-ordinator at Signposts, said: “The weather could not have been any better today for Signposts’ first ever Olympics. Well done to everyone that took part, what an amazing day. Thank you to the teams that planned and hosted the day. Lovely to see all of Signposts coming together.”

Signposts have been helping the homeless to start over in Luton and Dunstable since 1985 and celebrated 30 years of service on April 1. The clients they work with have a number of different complex support needs and they are working hard to scrap the stereotype and change people’s perceptions of homelessness.
