Community safety is on Luton Council's agenda

Luton Council’s Crime and Disorder Committee will discuss crime and community safety issues in the town at Monday’s meeting.

The council’s Overview and Scrutiny Board meeting, on Monday, March 2, will give the 13 elected councillors the chance to review the work the Community Safety Partnership has carried out to tackle community safety issues in Luton.

Cllr Anna Pederson Chair of the Crime and Disorder Committee, said: “As members of scrutiny committees, we want to be able to work closely with the community and in particular identify how community confidence in reporting crime can be increased.”

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting, which starts at 7pm in Committee Room 3 at the Town Hall.

Police and council representatives will be present to provide information and answer any questions raised by the committee.

Cllr Pedersen, said: “This is an opportunity for local residents to hear about the work of the Community Safety Partnership and the Police to ensure that Luton is a safer place to live.”

Evidence received on the day will help the committee to decide whether to make recommendations that could inform and shape how these issues are addressed.

The committee will review the work of the Community Safety Partnership over the past year, as well as their Business Plan for the current year to assess their effectiveness in order to decide if any changes might be appropriate.
