On song for The Voice... but one act is out

Mia Sylvester and the duo Joyful Soundz featured on the blind auditions of the popular talent contest as they tried to impress celebrity coaches will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones, Rita Ora and Ricky Wilson.

Mia, 27, of Limbury, was shown performing Avicii’s Addicted To You. Despite rave reviews from the coaches she didn’t make it through to the next round as the celebrities said they already had a high quota of female singers on their teams.

Will said: “Everyone on the chairs has been told ‘no’ many times. The nos become your strength. Let this be the fuel in your fire because you have amazing talent.”

And it looked like Joyful Soundz (consisting of Patrick Golding, 40, from Luton, and Simone Burnett, 35, from Dunstable) were also heading home as they sang Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s You’re All I Need To Get By.

But Will turned his chair at the very last second to put them into the battle stage of the contest – which will feature 48 acts.

Will added: “It sounded wonderful. You guys are amazing. I turned around because I was hoping you were twins. Rita has two duos, one of which is twins, Ricky has a duo that are twins. We can pretend though right!”

Teaching assistant Simone said: “Words cannot express how exciting it was, but it was actually very nerve wracking. The last thing you want to do is go on stage and make an idiot of yourself. It was a once in a lifetime thing.”
