Plan to open M1 hard shoulder at peak times

DRAFT regulations for a scheme that will cut congestion and improve journey times and safety on the M1 between Junction 10 and Junction 13 have been published for consultation.

The project will increase capacity by opening up the hard shoulder as an additional lane for traffic at peak times.

It will also allow the Highways Agency to smooth out traffic flows by varying speed limits.

The Agency has published a consultation into the proposed regulations. The eight-week consultation will run until October 14. Visit www.highways.gov.uk/roads/projects/32602.htm.
