Primary school growing together with community in garden project
Surrey Street Primary launched Growing Together as a community scheme and it has already made great progress.
School pupils and staff have been busy developing a grassy area at the front of the school, near the staff car park.

The children, throughout the course of the year, will be involved in gardening and cooking projects linked to art and DT. During the summer term children will be cooking the produce they have grown and developing their understanding of where food comes from.
Along with this project the school have been running Dig Days or Family Action Days where families are invited into school to help create a path in the garden, plant a wild meadow, plant fruit bushes and even toast marsh mallows round a campfire.
Future plans include looking at running a gardening club for parents in the spring term and a cooking course in the summer term using their home grown produce.
