Pupils join fight against cancer

More than 1,000 youngsters aged between 11 and 16 joined forces with parents, teachers and governors in aid of the charity’s life saving work.

Assistant headteacher Nicola Ponsonby said: “The whole school supported the event. It was a real team effort for a seriously good cause.

“Most of us know someone who has been touched by cancer and we all had our special reasons for taking part and wanting to help more people survive.”

Event manager Cara Waller thanked Challney and said: “Race for Life School is a fantastic way to have fun, get fit and save lives.

“Young people today are the generation who could see groundbreaking treatments and cures for cancer in their lifetime and it’s thanks to educational institutions like Challney that Cancer Research UK can achieve this.”

Schools across the UK are invited to hold their own Race for Life events. They can choose a day that fits with the term calendar and pick a distance which suits everyone.
