David Bowie who died on January 10 aged 69

But did you know that one of his most famous creations, Ziggy Stardust, played at the Queensway Hall on June 21, 1972.

It was part of a worldwide tour to promote his latest album Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars.

Bowie, who died in new York on Sunday aged 69, created the glam rock character for the album and tour and released one of his greatest hits, Starman.

He also played at nearby Leighton Buzzard at The Bossard Hall on May 2, 1967?

He appeared with his band The Riot Squad.

The band had been formed in 1964 and in early 1967, they were joined by David Bowie, who at the time was recording material for his self-titled debut album.

The band consisted of six members: Bowie (vocal, guitar, mouth-harp), Rod Davies (guitar), Brian “Croak” Prebble (Vocals), Bob Evans (tenor saxophone, flute), George Butcher (keyboards) and Derek Roll (drums).
