Road closures for the M1 J10a improvements scheme

Motorists are being advised of a series of road closures scheduled as part of the M1 J10a improvements scheme.

The M1 Spur Road and New Airport Way between Junction 10 and the Percival Way roundabout will be closed eastbound overnight between 8pm and 6am on Monday, March 16, and Tuesday, March 17. There will also be day time lane closures.

New Airport Way will be closed westbound overnight between 8pm till 6am, from Monday, March 16, until Friday, March 20.

From Tuesday, March 17, until Thursday, March 19, London Road (south) will be closed in both directions between Newlands Road and the new roundabout south of the Spur Road from 8pm till 6am, to allow for final surfacing and white lining.

There will be a full weekend closure of the M1 Spur Road westbound between junction 10 and Capability Green.

Daytime lane closures are in place on both sides of the carriageway between London Road and Capability Green for central reservation works from 9:30am till 3pm until Monday, March 23.

Three-way traffic lights will continue in London Road (north and south) just north of the junction of Newlands Road and London Road until Friday, March 27.

There is a 30mph speed limit on the M1 Spur, New Airport Way and London Road to maintain the safety of the workforce.

Councillor Dave Taylor said: “This major works scheme being undertaken by the council is aimed at improving reliable journey times into the south of Luton.

“We are approaching some key milestones in the construction of this project and are continuing to advise everyone travelling through this area to allow extra time for their journeys for the foreseeable period and especially during these necessary overnight and weekend closures.”
