Scam victim issues warning
A 79-year-old woman is warning others to be vigilant after she fell victim to a distraction theft on Thursday, July 28.
The pensioner, who does not wish to be named, answered the door shortly after 6pm, the man claimed to be her neighbours son and said he had locked his keys in his car and needed a lift to get a new key.
She said: “I live in Round Green and he wanted a lift to Lewsey Farm, I believed what he said and took him. When we got close he said he was meeting the man at Linden Road, so I dropped him there. He asked to borrow money as he had none to pay him or get back to his car, I gave him £5 as that is all I had, he asked if I had a card to get more but I didn’t. I realised something was wrong and I shouldn’t have given him a lift but I believed him. I called the police when I got home. I am concerned that this may not be the first time he has done this. He was Asian with a skin head and a deep indentation on the top of his head. I want to advise people to be careful when approached by strangers.”
