It might be miles from the sea but that hasn’t stopped Dunstable Town Council adding a beach to its proposed splash park.
Funding for the splash park was approved after the council submitted plans to Central Beds under its market town regenerations scheme.
And now Dunstable is also considering a beach at the Bennett Memorial recreation park.
The splash park and catering facility received a grant for £275,000 from CBC which Dunstable will match fund.
Funding for the beach, or large sandpit, is expected to come from savings from projects which will not happen until 2017/18.
Other projects which have been approved for the regeneration cash for the area include:
>A town centre architectural lighting scheme to showcase key buildings.
>New signage, street furniture and town entrance features to be delivered after the de-trunking of the A5.
>An enhanced town centre cleansing scheme.
>Improvements to The Quadrant and its toilets.
The splash park and beach could be similar to the popular one run in Leighton Buzzard which has been running at Parsons Close recreation ground for several years.
