Students scale Three Peaks for charity
A team of eight students from Harlington Upper School Sixth Form has been training at Big Rock in Milton Keynes in preparation for tackling the national Three Peaks Challenge in aid of servicemen's charity BASIC (Bridge Across Service into Civilian).
Spokesman Jake Bird of Silsoe said: “Now that British forces have returned from Afghanistan, the issues covered by BASIC will become more widespread and they will need further funding.
“We’ve never done anything like this before and none of us is an experienced mountaneer. But we feel what we’re doing is nothing in comparison to the servicemen and women who have sacrificed so much.” He added: “This event is completely separate from our educational identity and we hope it will raise awareness of what BASIC deals with day-to-day – PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), homelessness and unemployment.”
The 24 hour challenge starts at Ben Nevis in July.
