Suitcase Travel is officially open after celebrating with the Mayor of Dunstable and helping residents realise their holiday dreams.
The Queensway travel agency held its grand opening party on Saturday, March 18, and guests included town Mayor, Councillor Peter Hollick, and Mayoress, Councillor Ann Sparrow, while activities from colouring competitions to prize draws were on offer.
The ambitious, family run business is comprised of father, Mike Silford, mother, Lyn, and daughter Penny, along with their experienced staff member, Kimberley Rayneau.
Daughter and marketing executive, Penny, said: “It went really really well and lots of people came out to support us.
“We had food from ‘around the world’ on behalf of Lisa Roberts Catering, such as Maryland chicken, lamb samosas, bruschetta, and tortillas.
“The Mayor liked our large picture of the Maldives on the wall, and enjoyed the idea of sitting there and relaxing!
“People were coming up to us and saying how lovely it is to have an independent travel agency in Dunstable.”
The close-knit team provide “exciting, fully financially protected” deals to destinations from America to East Asia and have enjoyed transforming their new office, with an impressive sepia map covering one of the walls.
Penny’s father, Mike, used to run a tour operating business in London, and the family are passionate about finding customers the best deals for their money.
Penny said: “My parents have been feeling nervous but it’s all been non-stop!
“The best thing about being a travel agent is finding a holiday in a way that people can afford, as we know secrets to help them and work closely with tour operators.
“Guernsey and Jersey are great for family holidays, as you can fly or cross on the ferry and hire a car to travel around.”
Prizes won on opening day included theatre tickets to London, 50 per cent off a holiday, and a hamper, prosecco and Lady Sekonda watch.
