Sunny spells should last until Tuesday

SUNNY spells welcomed the hottest day of the year so far yesterday, with temperatures hitting 21°C in central Luton and 19°C in Whipsnade.

Shorts and sunglasses made an appearance on the streets and many workers made the most of their lunchbreaks by catching a few rays outside.

Weatherman Philip Eden told the Herald&Post yesterday: “The middle of Luton is usually the warmest spot in south Beds because it is the relatively low-lying and also heavily urbanised.

“This is the warmest it’s been in the first half of April since 2007.”

And the good weather is expected to last for the weekend with a forecast of fine and dry days with a mixture of clouds and sunshine.

Mr Eden added: “Temperatures won’t be quite so high, but still well above average at 17 to 19°C and it looks as though the fine weather should last until next Tuesday.”
