The Pheasant Inn has presented Herts and Beds Bloodrunners with a cheque for £500, thanks to donations from its customers.
Mike Coughtrey, pub landlord, wanted to give the money raised by his customers to a local charity that supports the community.
He said: “We wanted to donate the money for the Bloodrunners, it is also important that people are aware of what they do.
“The bloodrunners transport blood, plasma, platelets, a mother’s milk and samples for the NHS during the day and night, free of charge, to local hospitals where the regular blood service is unable to help.
“The process also saves money on courier charges, the money can then be spent on other NHS services.”
He presented the cheque to John McCombe, chairman of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Bloodrunners, at the West Street Pub.
Mike is a bloodrunner and started volunteering because he wanted to give something back to the community.
He said: “I think what they do is great, it saves the NHS money and the aim is to improve the service.
“Unfortunately, because of work I am unable to volunteer as much as I would like to, but I am happy that The Pheasant Inn was able to contribute in some way.”
