Victims of tragic Fancott crash remembered at snowy vigil

The memorial was organised for Lutonians Stephen Evans, 20, Rebecca Nabarro, 23, and Casey Flissikowski, 18 – who all died after a head-on collision in Fancott last month.

Stephen, Rebecca and Casey regularly attended Beds Modified car meets at the White Lion Retail Park and it was on the same spot that friends, family and the club’s members held a vigil in their honour.

Snow fell as three sky lanterns, which were adorned with heartfelt tributes, were released into the night during a minute’s silence.

Casey’s mother Joanne told the Luton News: “It was a very respectful and fitting event for three beautiful people, I was honoured to have been invited.

“It was lovely that their friends came to pay tribute to them in the best way they knew, by doing something all three of them enjoyed.

“It was nice to think they were thought of so much, they obviously touched alot of people.”

Stephen’s father Geoff added: “It was absolutely fantastic and the organisers did a brilliant job.

“There were so many people there and we hardly knew any of them, we are really proud of them for doing it.”

As part of the memorial organisers handed out 50 CDs with a playlist of Stephen, Rebecca and Casey’s favourite music, which were played out across the White Lion car park.

Donation buckets were also passed from car to car and £313 was raised for causes chosen by the victims’ families.

Juliano Racca, who organised the event with Beds Modified’s Nick Rance, said: “It couldn’t have gone any better, there were more than a hundred people there.

“The snow didn’t bother anyone, it wasn’t going to stop us.

“After the minute’s silence everyone played music and revved their engines to make a lot of noise.”

Juliano added: “So many people knew them and had seen them at car meets.

“I was with them on the Sunday night (November 29) as we were parked together at a meet, then on the Tuesday the accident happened (December 1).

“It makes everyone think twice about their driving.

“In the car scene I know people who have high performance cars who put their foot down, some of them have said it has made them think about everything,”

Beds Police continues to investigate the tragic collision between Stephen’s Vauxhall Corsa and a red Jaguar, which occurred on the B530 Fancott at around 11.20pm on December 1.

Last week the force made an appeal to three motorists who may have witnessed the incident.

They would like to speak to:

-The driver of a blue Vauxhall Vectra who is described as an Asian male aged between 30 and 40-years-old and who stopped at the scene.

-The driver of a plain, light coloured small-mid size van, possibly silver or white, with a black front bumper. It is believed to have been driving towards Charlton.

-The driver of a mid-grey Vauxhall Astra or similar shaped hatchback, which was travelling behind the van.
