Traffic chaos in Luton as transporter smashes into bridge

Queues of traffic is causing chaos as drivers try to escape down Dallow Road or are diverted down Telford Way.

Three police cars were on the scene shortly after the incident at around 2.45pm and immediately closed Dunstable Road.

Police officers were unable to confirm when the road would reopen as they are waiting for lifting gear so the transporter and vans can be recovered safely.

Akwasi Oppong, who was picking litter near to the scene of the crash, said: I heard a loud bang, so I turned and saw the man with his hands on his head.

“Everyone stopped what they were doing. I wanted to call the police but saw someone else call them and when they arrived they blocked the road.”
