Twenty six hurt in M1 collision

The incident happened at 4.18pm on the southbound carriageway between junctions 13 and 12 near Eversholt and involved a silver Mercedes, a black Vauxhall Astra, a white VW Golf and the white Renault Master minibus.

Serious injuries were sustained by two and four year-old siblings who were rear seat passengers in the Golf who were airlifted to Addenbrooks Hospital, while the front seat passengers in the Golf and Astra also suffered serious injuries and were taken to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. Twenty-two other people also suffered minor injuries were also taken to hospital.

Officers investigating the collision are appealing to anyone who was on the M1 at the time. Pc Jackie Reynolds from the Road Collision Investigation Unit said: “This was a very serious incident that closed the road for some time and required a significant response from all the emergency services. It is important that we understand how and why the collision occurred.”
