Ukies Toones comes to the aid of MND

A quirky band of ukelele players '“ voted Fundraisers of the Year at the inaugural Cheering Volunteering awards in 2015 '“ has donated more than £4,000 to the Luton & South Beds branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Associaton.

Accepting the cheque from Ukie TooNes founder Colin Creasey, MND chair Ann Murphy thanked them and said: “They not only raise money for us and Houghton Regis charity YAWN – Young Adults with Needs – but they also perform at other charity events, sheltered accommodation and nursing homes.

“They even played at the music marquee at Milton Keynes before one of the Rugby World Cup matches.”

Ukies TooNes’ next outing for MND will be at their quiz night on Friday, March 18 at Stopsley Working Men’s Club.

Ukie TooNes was initially formed as a fundraising vehicle to provide educational resources for three schools in Kenya but they proved so popular at the gigs they attended that they widened their remit.
