VIDEO: M1 bridge is demolished
IT was an almost apocalyptic scene on the M1 on Saturday night as hydraulic breakers demolished the old Juction 12 bridge.
The motorway was closed between junctions 11 and 13 for 16 hours while the 1,400-tonne reinforced concrete bridge was shattered, chewed and torn to pieces by the mighty machines.
Motorists suffered delays as traffic snarled up in Dunstable due to vehicles being diverted off the motorway and along the A5 between 8pm on Saturday and 12pm yesterday.
Project manager Lynne Stinson, said: “The Highways Agency would like to thank road users for their patience in following the diversion routes, or making alternative plans.”
