Warning: graphic image Cat left to die after possible shooting

The RSPCA is appealing for information after an emaciated cat - described as one of the thinnest seen at an RSPCA centre - was found under a bush in Luton.

The white female semi-longhair cat, thought to be aged around 10, was found collapsed on Saturday, 6 August, in Hartley Road by three women. They took her to the RSPCA’s Southridge Animal Centre, in Potters Bar and she was transferred her to a vet but died on Sunday morning (7 Aug).

RSPCA inspector Helen Mead: “The vets did absolutely everything to try and save her, but she was so poorly.

“The cat really was in the most appalling condition, very underweight and had diarrhoea. She also had a small hole in her head which looks like it could have been caused by a pellet. She was clearly suffering and we don’t know how long she was in this state for. Staff at the centre said she was in one of the worst conditions they had ever seen a cat.

“This is a very sad incident however we are very grateful to the three women who found the cat.

“She was microchipped but unfortunately we have not been able to trace to owners, and so we are urging anyone who recognises the cat to contact us on 0300 123 8018.”
