Winter poverty appeal for help

VULNERABLE people are at risk of fuel poverty this winter, and The Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation is appealing for support for its Surviving Winter campaign.

More people die each winter of cold related illnesses than die on our roads in a year and it is the elderly and people with chronic illnesses that area made worse by the damp and cold who are most affected.

The Foundation is supporting a national appeal, but is seeking funds from local people to help other local people.

Foundation chief executive Mark West said: “We have already raised a small amount of money for this work, but nowhere near enough to make a real difference to those in need at this time of year.

People are being forced to choose between eating or heating their home - but not both; something that I feel is very wrong. I’ve given to this appeal myself and urge others to do so as well. The impact may well be that a life is saved and I can’t put a price on that.”

Every penny The Foundation raises will support those at greatest risk in the community.

To donate to the appeal, contact the Foundation on 01767 626459 or email [email protected].
