The victim was outside Aldi in Scott Road at around 6.15pm when her handbag was stolen by the man who then dragged her across the floor, leaving her with injuries.

The thief then got into the passenger seat of blue Peugeot 206 with a registration plate starting KB before being driven off by another man in the direction of Sundon.

PC Hayley Carroll said: “This was a nasty incident and the offender inflicted injuries on the victim when he pulled her along the road.

“It happened in daylight at a busy time so we believe there were a number of witnesses and we’re urging them to get in touch to help us find the person responsible for this vile attack.”

The offender was wearing dark trousers and a striped hooded top with the hood up.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Carroll on 101 quoting reference number C/24778/2016 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
