Zumbathon in aid of hospices

TWO FRIENDS mourning the death of family members from cancer have decided to turn their grief into something positive.

Beauty therapist Shelley Jackson, 33, of Leagrave and Zumba instructor Ana Rodriguez, 37, of Dunstable have organised a Cheeky Charity Ladies Evening at Luton Rugby Club on Friday February 10 in aid of Keech Hospice Care and the Foyle Hospice in Londonderry.

Shelley’s dad Jim Jackson died from leukaemia as he was preparing to run the London Marathon and Ana’s cousin Li had spinal cancer.

Ana said: “Li and I were very close because we grew up together.

“She was only 29 when she died, leaving behind a loving husband and two-year-old daughter.

“Her passing taught me that cancer is the most unfair illness. It takes people in the most horrible way and it doesn’t care whether they’re young or old and whether they have a family or not.”

The all-action evening features three authentic Latin-American zumba instructors, including Mexican twins Liz Lopez and Dey Johnson, with an exciting surprise from Regiment Fitness.

Ana said: “We’re also having stalls and a raffle. People are being so kind, it’s very moving.

“We’ve managed to get everything for free so we can give 100 per cent of the profits to the charities.”
