There are a multitude of dating apps to choose from, with people around the UK swiping left or right to find their dream partner.

However, unbeknownst to you, your profile picture may actually be putting potential love interests off.

A survey released from dating photography agency Hey Saturday revealed a whopping 77 per cent of women are discouraged by the profile photos that men put up on dating apps and websites.

What not to do when taking a profile picture

  • Mirror selfies
  • Gym selfies
  • Bathroom selfies
  • Group shots
  • Poor quality images
  • Hide behind sunglasses or ski goggles
  • Substitute yourself for something else in the main profile picture
  • Over-filter your chosen image

What you should do when taking a profile picture

  • Smile
  • Choose a naturally relaxed pose
  • Show your face and eyes
  • Include a full body shot

Founder of Hey Saturday, Saskia Nelson, said: “Homegrown dating photographs are just not improving. Some images are so badly photoshopped or overly filtered the person no longer looks like themselves and they become totally misleading.”
