Harry and Meghan are launching their own ‘honours list’ to rival the Queen’s - how it will work

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly launching their own set of awards to reward individuals, companies and charities.

The new awards are said to rival the honours list issued by the Queen every year, and will celebrate causes important to the couple.

What will the awards be for?

Planned from their home in the US, the awards will aim to celebrate the following causes:

  • charitable service
  • Education
  • Science
  • Literature
  • racial justice
  • gender equity
  • environmental stewardship
  • youth empowerment
  • health
  • mental health

The news was revealed by court documents seen by The Sun which said that Harry and Meghan’s awards will focus on those the couple feel championed and promoted causes that are important to them.

The awards will be aligned and run by the couple’s Archwell Foundation, with some saying they could be set to rival the Queen’s honours list of knighthoods, CBEs, OBEs and MBEs.

However, unlike the Queen’s honours list, it is not known whether they will be handed out twice and year annually.

Lawyers for the US based couple first applied for permission to trademark the name in March, but US government lawyers rejected the application as the papers were vague and not signed.

The couple then had six months to resubmit the application or it would not go through. This application is currently under review.

The news comes as Prince William and Kate Middleton embark on a three-day trip through England, Scotland and Wales.

The royal couple will be meeting with members of the public who have faced challenges through the coronavirus pandemic, including care home staff, teachers and schoolchildren and volunteers, and thank them for their efforts.
