Ace Hamilton reaches last 16

LUTON tennis starlet Jacob Hamilton reached the last 16 of the Leverstock Green Open Tournament U14 boys singles last week, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 14-year-old beat Daniel Nickalls in the first round, before going out to Aleksander Mardinian.

He also played in the U16 event, where he lost to the same player in the first round.

Hamilton, who has been offered a scholarship at Gosling Tennis Centre, also took part in the HSBC Road to Wimbledon event recently.

In the group stages, he beat Rory Thompson but lost to Marcus Walters and James Ison, while the consolation draw saw a first round defeat to Erik Wilson.

Hamilton was then paired with Kieron Butter in the boys doubles and defeated Matthew Sharp and Sam Clarke to reach the second round, where they lost to sixth seeds Adam Bowen and Samuel Tullett.
