ATHLETICS: Luton AC duo in fine form

Luton AC athlete John McDonnell competed in a high quality race last weekend, the Leeds Abbey Dash 10, where 15 runners ran under 30 minutes.

McDonnell had a strong run to finish fifth in 29.31mins, a time which ranks him ninth in the country this year.

This has set him up for a good run in Liverpool on Saturday when he competes in the European cross country trials and looks for a place in the British team at the Championships held in Bulgaria in December.

Ian Kimpton is still recovering from his 18th place in the Frankfurt marathon where he finished in a time of 2.22hrs. He was the third European in a race dominated by Ethiopians and Kenyan runners.

Kimpston returns to competition in a special edition of the Wolverton 5 mile race which celebrates its 50th anniversary, with the Luton athlete who is the title holder, hoping to repeat his 23.49mins win of last year.
