ATHLETICS: Luton AC impress at County Cross-Country Championships
Stockwood Park made a welcome return as the venue when Gibbs & Dandy-sponsored Luton Athletic Club hosted the County Cross-Country Championships earlier this month.
Many runners wore blue ribbons in memory of Luton Junior school cross country champion Gianni Khan, who tragically died over the Christmas period. The testing conditions on a waterlogged course suited Daniel Woodgate who led from start to finish to take the individual award, while Sean Still drew on his marathon training to finish in an excellent third.
Strong runs from Andrew McMulkin (fifth), Tom Mead (seventh), Stuart Still (13th) and Robin Hudson (30th) completed the scoring for Luton to take the team title.
In the Junior races, the U13 boys ran well with Ryan Saint coming second, and was well supported by team-mates Michael Moroney (ninth) and Antonio Khan (10th) as Luton finished second behind Bedford & County AC.
The U13 girls team of Georgia Nunn (fourth), Libby Jay (fifth) and Natasha Hayman (13th), finished third.
Other notable performances came from Christine Lathwell who took the Veteran ladies title and Amalia Edwards who was the third U17 lady.
