ATHLETICS: Luton AC’s Senior men win opening clash

Luton AC, sponsored by Gibbs and Dandy and supported by Luton Rotary Club, travelled to Bury St Edmunds to compete in the East Anglian League last week.

Up against teams from West Suffolk AC, Hunts AC, Nene Valley, Leighton Buzzard and Thetford, the Senior Men’s team continued last season’s form to win the opening fixture with victories coming from Gerald 
Matthew in the 100m (11.1secs), plus Aderian Bright taking the B 100m in 11.8secs.

Craig Andrew also triumphed in the long jump with 6.66m and then went on to win the triple jump with a massive 13.83m.

Jamie Potten-Burrell won the shot put with 11.42m, with father Dave Burrell winning the B string with a put of 11.19m.

Roles were reversed in the javelin in which Dave won the A string throwing 43.11m and Jamie took the B string with 33.35m.

Dave also won the discus throwing 37.05 with Bright throwing 31.45 to claim the B string title.

The winning relay team of Bright, Andrew, Liam O’Dell and Matthew sealed the men’s team win as well.

The U15 boys also won their relay with a very fast squad of Tyreece Lawrence, Joshua Neufville, Tyriq Lafeuille and Lamin Coker running 50.1secs.
