As the temperature soared, only Amos Kiplagat of Kenya and Irish international Paul Pollock finished in front of Kimpton, as an astonishing 4.47mins final mile took him into the bronze medal position with a time of 1.04.30hrs.

As a bonus, the Luton AC athlete’s performance guarantees him a place in the British team at the IAAF World half marathon championships to be held in Cardiff in March 2016, while he also took home more than £2,000 in prize money.

The race incorporated the British Half Marathon Championships which Kimpton duly won too.

Also in good form for the club was Tom Mead who ran a PB of 33.11mins in the Eastleigh 10k.
