Bowls players’ festive flavour

LUTON Indoor Bowls club enjoyed a festive match between the Santas and the Snowmen last month.

After a hard-fought game, the Santas, captained by ladies skipper Rita Denton, just edged past the Snowmen, led by ladies’ vice-captain Maureen Allen, 97-96.

Meanwhile, Luton fell to a 121-114 defeat at Cheshunt in their last match of 2010.

The match was shared as both sides won three rinks, but the hosts were crowned the winners. Pete Jacobs’ top rink of Les Burn and Ted Tompkins romped to a 29-12 victory, but were deducted 25 per cent of their score as one of their players didn’t travel.

John Moore’s rink won 22-17 while Fred Thistlethwaite skipped his foursome to a 20-17 victory. However, Joe Maloy’s rink went down 26-11, while Janet Payne’s rink were beaten 29-19 and Ivor Walker’s rink lost 20-13.
