Classy George earns unanimous points victory

QUICKSILVER boxer Bobby George claimed a unanimous 40-36 points triumph over the sturdy ldeh Ockuko at the Seize The Day show at York Hall’s Bethnal Green, writes Mark Wood.

The 29-year-old Shamrock light welterweight again proved a class act as he picked Ockuko seemingly at will throughout their four-round encounter on Sunday as George secured the fourth win of his pro career.

George, real name Boris Gergiev, was in control throughout and never looked in any real danger against his dreadlocked opponent.

The Olympic bronze medallist, who boasts a stellar amateur career, weighed in at 10 1lb 8oz, while Ockuko, who marked a step-up in opponent for the adopted Lutonian, went into the ring at 10st 12oz.

Both boxers got off to a pacy start as Ockuko landed an early right in the first, but George showed his class from the off picking him off regular intervals.

The pair wrestled to the floor at one point, but that couldn’t stop George’s dominance as a fine right/left combination saw him take the round.

Sensing blood George stepped it up in the second, although he was waylaid when his corner was asked to sort the tape out on his glove.

He regularly broke through the Bermondsey boxer’s defences and a big left was followed by more of the same and the entertaining George continually acknowledged the crowd as he seemed to toy with Ockuko at times.

Slippery George was proving almost impossible to hit for his rival, although he did land with one overhand right. But quicksilver George was simply to swift for his rival as he continued to land good combinations.

Ockuko was ruled to have been pushed to the floor in the third, although the Lutonian did connect with a straight right and a fine right/left combo.

Shamrock boxer George continued to dominate the final round but couldn’t quite find the power to topple his robust challenger as he eased to a unanimous 40-36 points victory.

The defeat left Ockuko with an even record of four wins and four defeats.
