Devine expects big Luton following at Earthquake in Essex

Luton boxer Michael Devine is expecting his fans to turn out in force when he fights Hungarian Andras Varga in Brentwood on Saturday, writes Mike Simmonds.

Devine, 23, takes to the ring for the first time since May against his 19-year-old opponent who has six wins, two draws and two defeats to his name.

The Lutonian, who had a huge following behind him when he beat Robin Deakin at the same venue in the summer, and is hoping for more of the same.

He said: “I should be taking over 150 people, as more new fans are coming every time.

“They’re always vocal and when I came out it makes the hairs stand up, so I’m sure you’ll be able to hear them.

“It’s going to be a hell of a show, they are all 50/50 fights

“Bar 32 are helping out, they’re on board with sponsorships, so there’s after parties there, and people leaving from there, so anyone who wants to come is welcome.”

Devine admits to not knowing a huge deal about his opponent, but is preparing for every kind of fight in the gym.

He added: “I’ve got all different sorts of sparring in.

“I’ve got some top class amateurs, southpaws, orthodox, long range fighters, short range fighters, so whatever Barga is, I’ll be able to adapt.”
