Devine set to face mandatory Commonwealth title challenger Commey

Up-and-coming Luton lightweight Michael Devine is closing in on the big leagues after being paired against two fighters in March, writes Mark Wood.

He will face Goergian Tornike Tortladze, who has an even record of three wins, three losses and one draw, at York Hall Bethnal Green on March 8 before potentially facing unbeaten Ghanaian Richard Commey at the same venue on March 22.

Commey has won all 17 of his fights by knockout and is the champion of Ghana, the current IBF Africa Continental champion and the current ABU Lightweight champion.

He is also the mandatory contender for the Commonwealth lightweight title and is due to face Derry Mathews in March.

Devine’s trainer and manager James Paisley said: “We are still in talks over purses, however it’s looking like it will happen again.

“However, if i don’t get what I think it’s worth it might not happen! But it will put us where I think we are going.”
