Records are of no interest to Smith

LUTON boxer James Smith is not worried about building up a winning record as he continues to take the first steps in his professional boxing career, writes Mike Simmonds.

After beating Ryan Clark on his debut back in July, Smith has suffered points defeats to Wayne Alwan-Arab and Mark Coombs.

Smith took both fights at short notice and, with both opponents coming into the contests with unbeaten records, he was pleased to be learning his ringcraft.

The 23-year-old said: “People think they can pick up the Luton News and say ‘oh look he’s lost again’, but it’s not like that.”
