Shamrock Olympian is set for his ring return

OLYMPIC bronze medallist Bobby George makes his much-anticipated return to the ring on Saturday when he faces the dangerous Jevgenijs Kirollovs in Ireland, writes Mark Wood.

The Shamrock Gym fighter is raring to make his long awaited return as he has not fought since June 2009 and was forced to pull out of a fight last year at the 11th-hour with a foot injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season.

George, 28, who hails from Bulgaria and whose real name is Boris Georgiev, has been back in training for three months and will face the 22-year-old Latvian in a light welterweight contest at Leisureland Salthill, Galway.

He won his debut pro fight with a first round stoppage of Ghanaian champion Lanquaye Wilson in just 1.42mins in Portsmouth two years ago, but is not expecting such a quick end this time around.

George said: “Kirillovs is a tough guy who will go the rounds which is what I need after my lay-off but I expect to win this fight and move on quickly.”
