Smith happy to win pro debut

LUTON boxer James Smith felt he more than proved his doubters wrong with a debut win over Ryan Clark at Liquid Luton nightclub on Graham Earl’s Renaissance Night last month, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 22-year-old won all of his rounds to conclude a 40-36 points triumph over a durable and more experienced opponent.

Although Smith admitted he had been nervous prior to his first professional bout, once in the ring, he was able to get the job done to silence any potential critics.

He said: “A lot of people have been proved wrong. Ryan Clark’s a hard opponent, so to win all four rounds was good and I felt comfortable every minute of every round.”
