Tysie punches her way to history

Schoolgirl Tysie Gallagher became the first female boxer from Luton to win the ABAE Female Championships 54kg class at Brentwood recently, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 15-year-old Cardinal Newman pupil defeated India Wilkinson from St Pauls to be crowned champion.

Trainer James Paisley said: “It’s good for women’s boxing and Luton as she’s without doubt the first girl to win a national title from Luton.”

Gallagher will head to Sheffield to get a Golden Gloves certificate next month and will now fight national 57kg champion Lucy Sarsfield from Right Stuff ABC on February 28.

Paisley believes the youngster has quite a future in the sport now too.
