Cook and Berry on target as Chiltern are held

Chiltern Ladies were held to a 2-2 draw by Harpenden in their Five Counties League Division One clash on Saturday.

The hosts fell behind against the run of play, before upping their game in the second period as Emma Cook slotted home a sweet shot into the bottom corner.

Nicarra Berry then put Chiltern ahead, only to see Harpenden fight back to level.

In Division Three, the IIs held on to defeat Shefford & Sandy IIIs 2-1.

The hosts began brightly winning some short corners, but Chiltern defended valiantly, making two crucial goal-line stops.

They then attacked at the other end as Bev Siddons’ solid hit into the D reached a well positioned Fiona Delivett, who faced with just the goalkeeper to beat, did exactly that to make it 1-0.

In the second period, Chiltern made some excellent runs from midfield, as there were quick breaks which Paula Sinfield and Chelsea Wright took advantage of.

It was Wright who notched Chiltern’s second goal, with a fine finish.

S&S then pulled one back in the closing stages, but Chiltern held firm to seal victory.

The IIIs suffered a 6-0 defeat at Berkhamsted & Hemel IIIs in Division Four.

Chiltern weren’t lacking in effort or commitment, but found their opponents too strong to handle.

Leah Gourley won the player of the match award for the first time, making some excellent tackles, interceptions and passes.
