Chance for cricketers to showcase their talent

Promising local cricketers have the opportunity to begin a fast-track career to the professional game by taking part in the Wisden City Cup.

The cup is being run locally by Bedfordshire Cricket Ltd, and the best player will be awarded a contract with the MCC Young Cricketers.

The Luton competition includes three sides – Storm, Hurricane and RF Royals. All teams will play each other twice in Twenty20-style midweek matches.

Storm forfeited their first game again RF Royals, but are due to take on Hurricane at Luton Town & Indians CC this Friday, starting at 6pm. The final between the Luton teams will take place on July 19, also at Luton Town & Indians CC.

Martin Darlow, chief executive at Bedfordshire Cricket, said: “The Wisden City Cup is an initiative that aims to increase the popularity of cricket in inner-city communities.

“It is a great opportunity for the talent of Luton to show itself and to unearth cricketers like Monty Panesar.”
