Hill’s 50 not enough as Indians triumph

The hosts posted a score of 208-9 in their 50 overs as Sam Cherry took 2-40 for Dunstable, with Mike Alston claiming 2-19.

Despite good knocks from Guy Hill (63), Kashif Ali (54) and Terry Carr (29), Indians then bowled the visitors out for 188 with two balls remaining to become only one of two sides, along with Ampthill Town, to start the Division One season with back-to-back victories.

The second team also kept up their 100 per cent record Division Three B in a cracking game with Totteridge Millhillians II.

A half century from Jugdeep Singh gave Indians a good start but a batting collapse meant that it needed tailender Gagan Kashyap to scramble 19 more at the backend of the innings to salvage a score of 169.

It was then his 3-20 opening the bowling, securing him the man of the match award in the process, that meant they were able to secure a narrow five run victory.

Masood Mahmood and Ammad Saeed made 32 and 31 respectively for Luton Town & Indians IIIs but nobody went on to make a really sizeable contribution as Hoddesdon II were proved right to bowl first, dismissing LTICC for 184, then chasing it comfortably for a six wicket win.

The fourth team went to Bushey to play Met Police Bushey II and on an excellent wicket, three dropped catches allowing the Coppers to reach 219.

Karanjit Singh and Dipesh Patel both made 40s with the bat, but couldn’t go on as Indians were dismissed for 174, losing by 45 runs.
