Lions flash their teeth

THE 2011 Luton & District Midweek Cricket League season got off to a spectacular start as newly-promoted Lions CC, who were formerly known as Houghton Town, blew away Premier Division champions Luton Haiderys.

Lions CC, who last season came through unbeaten in Division One, showed their intent by posting a huge total of 191-4 in their allotted 16 overs.

Nazakat Khan (62) and Syed Toqeer Shah (58) led the way with Rahim Azim’s 3-30 the pick of the Haiderys attack.

Another newly promoted side, Luton CC, were involved in a high scoring game as they smashed 154-4 against last year’s runners-up Luton Pakistanis. Saghir Nazir hit 58 against his former club, with Sailesh Patel (37) and Saeed Ahmed’s 35 not out, useful contributions.

Pakistanis made light work of their target, reaching it in the 13th over, with 58 from Haroon Ahmed.

A low scoring game at Lower Wardown Park saw Luton Cricketers make 93-8, but Hawks won by seven wickets, with Naeem Ahmed smashing a couple of sixes.
